Baked French Fries

Sharing is caring!

I am always looking for a way to be healthier and eat less processed food. These baked french fries are made with real potatoes, olive oil and topped with seasonings. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside is how I like my french fries. Although deep fried food tastes so good, these baked french fries are still crispy and delicious.

Making your own baked french fries takes more time than making the frozen fries from the store. However, making them yourself lets you decide what ingredients to use. This recipe is eaten best when freshly made. I have not tried to store them long term. Just leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and rewarming if needed. My kids like just salt and pepper but my husband and I like garlic, onion and mixing in different herbs. Remember to plan ahead with these baked french fries. We like ours really crispy and bake almost 50 minutes.

How to Make Baked French Fries

Start by cutting up 3 medium potatoes. I cut in half, then slice them until they resemble French fries. The bigger the fry, the less crispy it will be. Although, too small and they are all crisp with no soft inside. Use your best judgment.

Next place cut fries in bowl and wash well. This helps take some of the yeast off the potatoes.

Remove all the water.

Then add 1-2 tablespoons of salt to the bowl of fries.

Add water to cover the potatoes. Let sit for 15-30 minutes. Mine are about 20 minutes but the longer you soak, the more crispy they will be because the salt draws out the moisture inside the potatoes.
