Sourdough Croutons
Making bread can be very rewarding, but what do we do with stale bread? One of the ways I preserve and use my bread before it gets old or moldy is by making sourdough croutons. Sourdough croutons are eaten as a snack or on salads and are full of flavor. Flavoring the croutons is as simple as finding out what flavors you like. I use many different kinds of herbs but my family favorite is parsley, oregano, thyme and rosemary. I will also make them with garlic and salt.
What makes these sourdough croutons? The type of bread I cut up is always leftover sourdough bread. I make sourdough french bread quite often and when it seems too dry, I cut it into pieces and make croutons. Any loaf bread would work in this recipe though.

How to make sourdough croutons
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Cover baking pan with parchment paper
Cut a half of a loaf of sourdough bread into bite size pieces.
Place sourdough pieces in large mixing bowl.
Drizzle on olive oil until bread is coated slightly. Toss bowl and allow oil to cover the pieces.

Add seasonings to bowl and toss around until all pieces are coated well.
Pour bread pieces on a parchment lined baking pan.

Bake for about 20 minutes, check at 10 minutes to see if bread is crispy.
Bread should be almost hard and crunchy when done. Slightly golden but will get harder as they sit out at room temp.

Store croutons in an airtight container at room temperature after completely cooled down.
