How to make powdered sugar

All that is needed is cane sugar and a good blender. While you can add corn starch to prevent caking in storage, it is not totally necessary. In this recipe I use 1 cup of cane sugar and it makes just over 1 cup of powdered sugar. Double, triple or quadruple recipe as needed.

cane sugar and blender

Start by adding cane sugar to a blender or mini blender.

Turn on blender and let it run for 30 seconds at a time. I will shake up the blender pitcher if any sticks to the sides.

blending cane sugar

Then turn the blender on again for 30 seconds. The sugar will start getting lighter and fluffier as it blends.

Keep blending until sugar is white and will dissolve easily. I test it by placing a small amount on a plate and tasting it. If it feels crystal like or grainy, I keep blending.

Powdered sugar should be completely smooth and dissolve very fast on the tongue.

Keep in mind that the sugar can get hot while in the blender and should be cooled before adding to any frosting recipe.
