Easy Homemade Syrup
I love making this easy homemade syrup. It is buttery sweet with molasses and maple flavors. I started making this syrup because I was tired of using store bought high fructose corn syrup and overly priced organic maple syrup. This syrup is definitely not healthy but at least I know what ingredients I am using. Not only does it taste amazing, it is easy and fast to make.

How to make easy homemade syrup
All you need to make this easy homemade syrup is real cane brown sugar, filtered water, butter and maple extract.
I use dark brown sugar for more molasses flavor. Salted or unsalted butter doesn't seem to make much difference in flavor. Sometimes I will add a little vanilla extract as well.
Start by putting 2 cups of cane brown sugar into a sauce pan and 1 cup of filtered water.
Stir until dissolved and bring to boil.
to boil for 4 minutes, stirring constantly.

Next turn off heat and add one stick (8 tablespoons) of butter.
Stir until combined.
Then add 1 teaspoon maple extract.
Let syrup cool before putting into a storage container. I use either a glass or plastic jar with a lid.
Store syrup in the refrigerator for up to one month.
When the syrup is cold, the butter will settle on the top. Simply shake the container to mix and warm as much as you need. I will only warm up 1/4 cup at a time for my family and keep the rest in the fridge.
This easy homemade syrup can be doubled or even tripled when making. We do not go through a lot of syrup each month, so my batch is on the small side.
